Is Pasta Actually Healthy?

This is a question that gets debated a lot in the nutrition industry, especially due to its high carbohydrate content.

So what is the actual answer? Well, in this blog, I’m going to delve a little deeper into the evidence behind why pasta is healthier than you may have initially thought…

Firstly, pasta is high in carbohydrates and this therefore contributes to the popular opinion that pasta is unhealthy.

Let’s explain this further… This is true to some extent for white pasta which is high in SIMPLE carbohydrates! Simple carbohydrates such as white pasta are refined during the production process, stripping away many of the essential nutrients with it!

Furthermore, refined pasta is generally higher in calories and lower in fiber than other types of pasta, this is more concerning for weight loss as a lower fiber diet is likely to leave you feeling less full, subsequently increasing cravings, snacking and therefore encouraging an increased overall calorie intake.

This is especially concerning as white pasta is the most popular pasta on the market…

HOWEVER, for this very reason we have introduced our NEW Protein Pasta! This pasta is made of Durum Wheat which has a lower glycaemic index (GI) that regular refined pasta.

This is beneficial as it means that the carbohydrates from the pasta are digested more slowly than other refined carbohydrates such as white pasta, therefore allowing you to remain fuller for longer!

Increased levels of satiation and feelings of fullness will allow you to reduce your overall calorie intake, allowing you to enter and calorie deficit more easily and therefore playing a vital role in your weight loss efforts!

Additionally, with 2.6g of fibre per serving of Protein Pasta, this also plays an additional role in allowing you to feel full for longer, keeping those cravings at bay!!

However, it should be noted that carbohydrates do have many key benefits and therefore shouldn’t be viewed completely in a negative light.

Carbohydrates are a key macronutrient as they represent the body’s main source of energy and therefore are required in order to sustain any form of exercise at a moderate to high-intensity.

Fuelling yourself adequately prior to workouts with carbohydrate rich sources such as our new Protein Pasta which has over 32g of carbohydrates PER SERVING will ensure you are able to maintain a higher intensity for longer, minimise levels of fatigue and ultimately burn those extra calories leading to greater results in the long-term!

Not only is pasta rich in carbohydrates but it is also generally LOW in calories due to its low fat content and can be combined with a wide variety of low calorie toppings to ensure that your calorie intake for the pasta dish is minimised!

For example, our Protein Pasta only has 268 calories PER SERVING! This therefore allows you to have a great tasting, filling, guilt free meal!

On top of this, Durum Wheat also has a high protein content with a whopping 30g of PROTEIN per 75g serving!

Yes, you heard that right! A high-protein content has a huge array of beneficial implications… A high-protein diet has been shown to be beneficial in reducing cravings and late-night snacking by reducing appetite, this in turn will lead to a reduction in overall caloric intake and therefore allowing for you to enter a calorie deficit and lose weight more easily!

This Protein Pasta can also be combined with a variety of protein options such as lean mince-meat as well as a variety of other protein sources to help maximise your protein intake per meal.

So to summarise, in order to get the most nutritional value out of your pasta dishes, choose the type of pasta you eat wisely! Our NEW Protein Pasta is high in protein, fiber and low in calories, helping you achieve results whilst enjoying your food!
