Why Am I So Tired?

Do you find yourself constantly lacking in energy? Falling asleep at your desk in the middle of the day? Or maybe your daily coffee no longer provides that caffeine-kick you so desire. If you are not behind on your sleep schedule, then this fatigue could be a sign you are lacking in vital nutrients, or simply not fuelling yourself sufficiently throughout the day.

 Don’t skip breakfast

Eating a good breakfast - packed with protein, antioxidants and complex carbs will help keep you energized throughout your morning. A good choice is opting for our Slender Porridge which has added protein to slow-down the rate of digestion and keeps you feeling full throughout the morning. Pair this with some fresh (or frozen) berries to provide an antioxidant boost for a well-rounded breakfast.

Alternatively, if you are rushed in the mornings you could always take a meal-replacement shake on the go, with added multivitamins and minerals our Slender Blend is perfect to replace the nutrition you lack from skipping breakfast – and also helps to prevent that 11am blueberry muffin in the staff room!

 Get those endorphins pumping!

Getting in a workout may be the last thing on your mind when all you want to do is take a nap. However, research suggests moderate levels of aerobic exercise creates a level of alertness in your brain from the endorphins released around the body – therefore potentially helping you stay awake for the rest of the day! You can also try out our Pre-Workout Blend prior to working out to optimise your time. This contains added caffeine to prevent muscle fatigue so you can get the most from your workout!

However, be careful not to overdo it. Taking part in high intensity exercise too often could be the cause of your problems. Keep HIIT workouts to no more than 3 times a week and for no longer than 20 minutes per session - supplement the rest of your workout routine with strength-based exercises of lower intensity.

Supplement your diet!

Chronic tiredness can also be a symptom that your body is lacking in essential nutrients. Most commonly those suffering with extreme fatigue are deficient in Vitamin D. If you know you don’t get enough sunlight then this would come to no surprise. Supplementing with a high dose (>1000IU) good-quality Vitamin D can help ensure you are getting enough of this vital vitamin which is very rarely found in food. Major food sources are dairy milk and fortified products which most of us do not consume in great quantities. At Protein World many of our products, including the Slender Blend, Slender porridge and pancakes are fortified with some amount of Vitamin D which can help keep your levels topped up when consumed regularly!

If these 3 simple steps aren’t doing the trick and you still think you need an extra buzz. Then try our Green Tea Extract which contains a natural form of caffeine and polyphenols to keep you feeling energized throughout the day. It is perfect for those of us who don’t like drinking coffee!
